Reiki & Distance Reiki
Reiki
The Japanese term and character of “Rei” is universal meaning it can be found everywhere and in essence means “Spiritual Wisdom”. The character of “Ki” is the non-physical life force energy that animates all living things and means “Life Energy”. Ki has various other names in different cultures, and can be interpreted as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit, and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian, and biofield energy in Science.
Although there are many kinds of healing energy, Reiki is a special kind of healing energy that can only be channeled by someone who has received the placement or attunement for it. Mikao Usui created Reiki in the early 1900’s. Today Reiki is used as a supplement to other medical therapies all around the world, including in hospitals and hospices.
Reiki is a gentle touch healing modality used to help balance energy flow to bring the body back into equilibrium. By promoting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual equilibrium in a person, it promotes healing and can help with pain relief, stress reduction, and improving general health.

THE REIKI SESSION
A typical Reiki session will last 30 to 60 minutes, and discussion regarding the process and your expectations will take place during that time. Inform the practitioner of any issues and concerns you would like addressed, and any specific body parts you would like them to focus on. Inform the practitioner of any injuries or touch-sensitive places on your body. You will be laying down on a massage table, fully clothed, and possibly a light blanket will be placed over you for your comfort.
During the Reiki session, the Reiki practitioner will energetically scan your body before and during the session to know where to focus the Reiki energy for balance, and after the session to know if the session is complete.
The Reiki practitioner will use a gentle touch on your body to transfer Reiki energy, or may focus Reiki energy - with hands hovering slightly over the body - directed at other energetic layers of the body, to facilitate healing by improving the flow and balance of your energy. The session is typically carried out in silence, and you may feel different sensations - heat, tingling, or just a sense of peace and calm - as the practitioner is working. Some receivers may have memories come up, receive visual colors or images. The receiver should just allow whatever arises to process and release, without giving too much significance to it.
After a Reiki session, the Receiver may experience a detoxification of the body. Because this process involves change, you could become uncomfortable. However, sometimes it is subtle and hardly noticeable at all. Some may experience a deep sense of peace and relaxation. Some Reiki Masters believe that this sort of clearing takes about 21 days. However, the clearing time frame is an individual matter and will last as long as necessary.
As with any energetic healing modality, approach with an open heart and mind, allow your energy to flow, and embrace the wisdom and beauty of your healing journey.

Distance Reiki
The Reiki practitioner uses the Reiki distance healing symbol to facilitate a Distance Reiki healing session. The meaning of the Distance Healing symbol is “no past, no present, and no future”. It is based upon the premise that time and space may be transcended energetically - to go beyond the range or limits of physicality - so the Reiki practitioner can direct the healing energy to any place and any time. In this manner the Reiki energy may be sent to a person who is far away.
A Distance Reiki healing session is held in the same manner and with the same intention as an in-person session as described above, however the receiver is not physically present. Distance Reiki works on the phenomena of Quantum Entanglement. Thus this work can happen no matter the distance that the client and Reiki practitioner are apart from each other.
